An ode to the Daytime Nap

An Ode To The Daytime Nap

This post goes out to all of you Mummy’s, Daddy’s, Nana’s, Grandad’s, Step Mum’s, Step Dad’s, Childminders and Nursery Workers…in fact anyone with responsibility for looking after little one’s.

For those of you with children that still have a daytime nap, believe me you are blessed, but be warned, it doesn’t last.  For those of you that they don’t, you might just relate to this!

There once was a time in the day
That mummy’s got to stop and say
Oh, how we love the daytime nap
That snippet of time, that lovely gap

Now what should we do with this hour?
Clean, tidy or hey maybe take a shower
It won’t be long before they rise
Oh God, how quickly the time flies

When they were tiny naps got in the way
Leaving the house used to take all day
If they weren’t asleep, taking their nap
You would guarantee an explosion of crap

I’ve found my H spot!

Apologies if you were expecting some sort of new erogenous zone that you’d been missing out on all these years.  Unfortunately Ladies and Gents, the H Spot is not the new G spot but I have found an amazing new (H)oliday  spot!

You often hear of people returning to the same holiday destination each year. I’ve never quite understood this concept given its a big world out there, so many places to see and different things to do.

However I stand corrected as I’ve found my UK H Spot and it’s ….The Isle of Purbeck, Dorset.

We’ve just got back from a lovely week spent on the Isle of Purbeck. We, being my son and my parents – ticking another off the “who do you holiday with, as a Single Parent?” list.

We stayed in a village called Corfe Castle in a gorgeous cottage that you could fit my house into 3 times over! It was a last-minute find, so slightly bigger than we needed but gave us the added bonus of a room each. The extra space also meant for a whole week I wasn’t conscious of my dulcet tone being heard by neighbours as I have those constant debates that take place with a 3-year-old to get the simplest of things done.

Do I have a daddy?

As Father’s Day gets ever closer I find myself getting slightly anxious for my little boy. His father hasn’t seen him since he was 9 months old and he’s now three and a half. He’s at that age where he questions everything, so naturally the inevitable questions have started  – “Do I have a daddy?” and “Where is my daddy?”

These questions break my heart and they always come out of the blue. I still don’t know if I said the right thing the first time I was asked. It was one of our daily walks home from nursery after a day at work and there it was, out of nowhere, “Mummy, I don’t have a daddy do I?

Looking into those innocent big blue eyes of his, what could I say? As my heart broke into a million pieces, before I had time to think I said “Of course you have a daddy sweetheart, he just lives a long way away”.

Was this the right thing to say? Because in my mind he doesn’t actually have a daddy. Isn’t a daddy someone who is there to care, love and protect their child?

Wicked Wednesdays #5

Wow, another week has gone by and time for another Wicked Wednesday. Where did last week go?

Funny how the week’s fly by but then sometimes the days drag on forever! Well, last Sunday was definitely one of those days. I think we both must have got out of the wrong side of the bed, I was on a short fuse, as was the little guy. He wasn’t being naughty but the slightest silly thing was really getting under my skin. Know that feeling? Maybe a tad hormonal?!

Anyway, as always when it get’s like this, I think, right, let’s get out of the house, so first thing we headed out to the Farmer’s Market, walked around there, chomped on a gorgeous Crepe. The little guy bumped into nearly all of his pre-school group – what a social butterfly! Then it was time for Little Rugby…ah a bit of timeout for mummy to sit on the sidelines, oh no, time to join in! Home to cook lunch and then that was it, I’d hit my wall. There was nothing that was going to get me through the afternoon other than to hit the caffeine.
